Summer time Is nearly right Here! Summer is almost here! In only a few short weeks school that is high around the country will be going on summer break. We receive numerous questions from students about what they should be doing over the summer. There truly is not one answer.

Having read 46,000 applications, we’ve seen a selection of summer experiences that students have embarked on. We’ve read every thing from summer time programs at prestigious universities, to gaining work experience at their local mall, to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (literally). We admire students that pursue their passions.

Right Here is a list that is short of activities you could pursue:

  • Volunteer at a hospital, park, library, museum or aquarium
  • Become a Camp Counselor at a summer camp
  • Train to become a lifeguard at your local pool, lake, or coastline
  • Baby-sit your neighbor’s kid
  • Take a college-visit road trip
  • Serve up fro-yo at your local yogurt that is frozen (get some work experience)
  • Sign up for the mission or solution trip in the usa or abroad
  • Tutor younger students in your chosen topic
  • Take a course at your community that is local college university

Anything you end up achieving this summer, make sure to choose a summer activity considering that which you love doing and perhaps not based on just how you think it will look on your university applications.

Transfer Decisions

In about a week we is transfer that is contacting regarding their application to USC. At this point a number of students have heard of their admission. But, nearly all transfer applicants will receive a choice or perhaps a demand to get more home elevators or by June 1st.

If you will get a request for more information:

Generally, the excess information we request will likely be your spring transcript with your final grades for the academic year. This demand just isn’t an indicator that the student is more apt to be admitted or maybe not; rather shmoop.pro it gives us by having a more complete academic history. Even as we get the information that is additional you need to hear of a decision within 2 to 30 days.

If a letter is received by you of admission:

You will have two weeks to submit your commitment deposit if you are admitted to the fall term. During that two week period you need to receive a economic aid honor (if you applied). You will additionally want to register for orientation the moment feasible. Finally, you should complete your housing application promptly, as space is limited for transferring students if you are interested in university housing.

Professional Development

Things have started to calm down round the office now that all freshman decisions have been made. We’re still taking care of reviewing transfer files, but our staff recently took a quick trip to Reno, NV to attend a professional conference.

While here, we attended sessions about various admission subjects and best practices, such as just how to give a highly effective highschool see, what kinds of technology might be useful in the recruitment procedure, and how to read college essays while paying attention of our personal biases (positive or negative). The meeting additionally offered us a chance to get in touch with our colleagues from various parts of the national country, including many of your high school counselors. It in fact was a great possibility to share our own knowledge and expertise and learn from each other. Perhaps the most admission that is seasoned on our staff learned something brand new at the seminar!

Summer is our opportunity to sleep, review what we’ve learned over the past year, and prepare for the coming year. We hope you’re able to do the same during your summer time break!

Summer in the City

It is officially summer in Southern California! Campus is a bit quieter, the temperatures are getting warmer, and most importantly, the rate in our workplace has slowed down. We’re also benefiting from this downtime to explore l . a . and all that our city has to offer our students.

Like in previous summers, we’re utilizing the summer time Restaurant Series, prepared by some of our very own colleagues, to explore the cuisine that is local. Just last month, we ventured to 23rd St. Café in USC’s yard. This unique restaurant offers American, Indian, and Mexican food, along with some fusion dishes. The Chicken Tikka Masala quesadilla was quite popular in our group! For the food that is second, our restaurant series took us to Umamicatessen. According to the internet site, this location is ‘inspired by international road bazaars while the classic United states delicatessen’ and offers 5 different kitchens serving up diverse kinds of food within a hall that is dining within the Orpheum Theatre. A few of our dishes that are favorite this outing had been the truffle fries, made-to-order donuts, and various types of Umami’s specialty: burgers.

Besides consuming our way through some of Los Angeles’s notable restaurants, we’ll spend time during July and August going to events that are cultural checking away historic spots around the town. Some activities we will experience include a guided tour of the Disney Concert Hall and Music Center, enjoying the Downtown LA Art Walk, and hopping in the newly opened Expo line to simply take the train to the Culver City Farmers Market.

What restaurants, activities, and outings do you enjoy around Los Angeles? Inform us in the reviews section—maybe we are able to add your suggestion to our list this summer!
