The Myth: the remainder application does not matter if i’ve a high gpa and test score.
The Verdict: Nope.
‘It’s exactly about the numbers’ generally seems to unfortunately be something I hear a significant bit when folks mention college admission. It creates me sad because that is wholly false when dealing with the admission procedure at USC. Students, counselors and parents tend to get extremely anxious about GPAs shmoop college paper writing services and test scores.
GPAs and test scores are essential, however they aren’t the only factor that is deciding a student’s admission choice. Students applying to USC will be automatically admitted never nor denied based solely on GPA and test scores.
We are to understand pupil the greatest we perhaps can through the admission process. GPAs and test ratings help us determine how well you are doing academically, but we would also like to access know you beyond that. You want to learn about the method that you spend your own time outside associated with classroom. We are interested in observing your character and the full life experiences you may possibly have had up to this point. We want to learn why you are searching for going to college at USC. We want to learn from your teachers or counselors their perspective on who you are as student and human being. We can’t get all that information from just a GPA and a test score.
This is why we don’t have a cutoff for GPAs and test scores. We desire to be sure you have the preparation that is academic achieve success at USC, but that can be determined in lots of ways. We review your transcript while we calculate your GPA. What type of classes is the learning student taking? Is the student challenging herself within the context of what is available at her school? So how exactly does this relate solely to her standard testing? There isn’t a magic gpa and test rating combination to determine all this.
Admission to USC is competitive. They are many, many qualified pupils who are applying to USC. We don’t have spots for all of them in our incoming class. We use qualitative components such as task summaries, essays, and letters of guidelines to make distinctions among our many excellent candidates.
Whenever we wanted, we’re able to just take the best GPAs and test ratings and admit those students. We would admit a very different class than the one we just enrolled if we did that. I also would n’t have job because a computer could do that. Our admission procedure is a peoples one, and we are seeking to bring a class that is well-rounded USC. We aim to achieve this by utilizing your entire application to learn as much as we can in regards to you.
A high GPA and test score is not a ticket that is golden admission at USC. We go beyond the numbers, and we hope you do too in the job.
Hello from one other side….
Interviews…another part of the college application process. We’re currently finishing up our interviews that are on-campus the end of November (Thanksgiving excluded.) You might also see us interviews that are conducting urban centers towards you throughout the United States. At this time along the way, it is possible you’ve already been through a few college interviews, and I’m yes at the end you left with either feelings of success, dissatisfaction, excitement or a variety of other adjectives which could describe the uncertainty that is a meeting. Hopefully I am able to provide you with a little insight into that which we are thinking during those 30 minutes.
Our interviews generally last around 25 minutes and now we as admission counselors, spend afternoons, from 1:30 pm until 4:30 pm, interviewing around five students. So, what’s actually going through our minds whenever we take a seat across the table from you? Well, that largely depends on you…
Are you visibly nervous? Perspiring? About to breakdown in tears? Then i am most likely hoping that I can get you to calm down if the answer is yes. I am going to generally start off with questions that have actually clear cut answers: Tell me just what classes you are taking this semester…What book are you reading in English appropriate now? Students do not have to think of these questions, they have the answers. Ideally, it will help the person calm down, and we could have a conversation that is relaxed. If this sounds familiar, don’t worry, you’re not the only person. Most of the time students feel at ease pretty quickly once they realize the nature that is true of interview. The ideas that are main attempt to extract from students are the following: 1) performs this person know why they have been applying to USC? Will there be something certain they’ve seen here that is of interest to them? 2) Can this learning student think critically? Can they answer a question that will require though or might possibly not have an answer that is obvious? 3) Are they confident in their abilities and generally are they sure they could succeed at USC? College is hard so we want individuals who want to be right here.
The vast bulk of my interviews get smoothly with very few bumps into the road. There are of course moments when I repeat myself because we can not remember if i have asked question during this interview, or the one prior to it. So in advance, please forgive me you the same question twice if I ask. My goal during an interview is to get a solid conversation going so it feel less like an interview, and much more like one person hoping to get to learn another. So just come with an open mind, greet us with excitement (hopefully genuine), and every thing will go smoothly.
